Paso Creole Horses

.

Origin

The term Paso Creole is a recent invention and the credit goes to Elyane Brightlight, who owns horses with Paso blood.

The idea of crossing Pasos with other horses isn't such a new idea. Looking at Paso Fino bloodlines, it is evident that outside blood was crossed in at several times, mainly in the form of Andalusian blood, within the last century.

On searching the web, one finds the term "Paso Iberoamericano", meaning a horse which is a cross between Spanish (Andalusian) and Paso horses.

Many of the horses in South America which are bred for ranch work are mixed blood (Criollo, Croele) horses which carry the blood of their original Spanish ancestors mixed with other imported horses.

The term Paso Creole conjures up images of tough and strong medium sized, well gaited horses which are suited to the local climatic and geographic conditions. In this spirit, we decided to devote a Paso Registry section to the Paso Creole horse.

General Info

A Paso Creole is any horse with at least 50% of either Paso Fino or Paso Peruano blood:

  • Paso Peruano x Other Breed
  • Paso Fino x Other Breed
  • Paso Peruano x Paso Fino
  • Paso Peruano x Paso Creole
  • Paso Fino x Paso Creole
  • Paso Creole x Paso Creole

The ideal Paso Creole horse is well gaited, showing one or more of the many variants of the smooth saddle gaits. A straight pace is not desirable, however a sobreandando or stepping pace is acceptable.

The Paso Creole shows Paso/Spanish type and is sized between 13.2 and 15.2 hands in height. The appearance should be harmoneous and the conformation suited to hours of work under saddle. The attitude should be keen but not frantic, and a smart, people oriented temperament is important. Any colour is allowed.

To illustrate, please see some of our Paso Creole horses:

A popular cross is Paso x Standardbred and Paso x Australian Stockhorse and Paso x Andalusian.
