General Information
Narrawin Stud is Australia's first stud specialising in Gaited Horses. Visitors to Narrawin Stud see 5-gaited American Saddlebreds, Peruvian Pasos Paso Creoles.
Paso Creole horses are crossbreds carrying the blood of either breed of Paso horse, with at least 50% Paso Fino or Peruvian Paso blood. We cross Pasos with Andalusian/Spanish horses, sometimes also with Saddlebreds or Standarbreds. Our goal is to produce smooth gaited horses with beauty, stamina and great attitude. We select for soundness, conformation and temperament, all foals have in common a good disposition and a lovely nature. There is well planned variation in size and type. On average, the Paso Creole horses are taller than the Peruvian Pasos and Paso Finos.
Depending on the bloodlines of the foals, the crossbred gaited foals can be either Iberian in type or a little more English. They vary in size from 14 to 16 hands. Many of our horses show the smooth gaits right from birth, so we often see foals amble in the paddock.
Others mostly show the trot at liberty but easily find their way into the smooth riding gaits when started under saddle. This is mostly the case with Saddlebred and Icelandic horses.
We have years of experience in riding and training gaited horses. We train our own horses and others here at Narawin Stud. Our training methods are gentle, based on classical dressage principles and tailored to the individual requirements of each horse. We do not use artificially lengthened hooves, extreme weights or any other methods which may adversely affect the well-being of any horse.
The mixed blood offspring from Peruvian Paso and Paso Fino horses are referred to as Paso Creole. This name was not our idea, it was thought up by our friend Elyane Brightlight. It very well describes the horses and with her permission, we have adopted the term.
We sell young stock and occasionally horses that have been started under saddle. All are well mannered and well handled.
