Smokey was bred by Donna Nabors of Five Gaits Farm, Kentucky. His sire Sultan's Black Sovran (pictured) was a beautiful black stallion who had sired many outstanding foals at Five Gaits Farm. His progeny excel in many different disclipines. Sadly, Donna lost him, but retained a full brother to Smokey.

Smokey arrived in Australia on January 3, 2000. His bloodlines are a welcome addition to Narrawin Stud and the American Saddlebred gene pool in Australia in general.

Smokey is 15.3 hands high. He combines elegance and substance. He has excellent bone and good feet. His gaits are straight and elastic. His conformation allows him to work in collection easily, and he has a good overstep. He is well proportioned with a lovely topline. His movement is groundcovering

Smokey is a sire of choice for any breeder wishing to produce quality American Saddlebred foals. Furthermore, he is an excellent prospect for serious breeders of sport and performance horses. Beautiful and very competitive horses result from a crossing a good Saddlebred stallion with Warmblood, Thoroughbred and Arabian mares. If your breeding goal is a classy horse with good movement, sane mind, friendly attitude and good bone, then Smokey is your man!

Smokey is a quick learner and a great mover. He is a pleasure to work with under saddle. We use him as a pleasure riding horse where he shines with giving a comfortable ride and being quite unflappable. He is pretty laid back and can be ridden alone or in company. We have ponied a colt off him and taken him out riding with mares. He does not need working down, and he can be ridden by advanced beginners. However, he is also a fun horse for an advanced rider.

He is fantastic to handle in every way and is well mannered during hand mating. His progeny show the same pleasant temperament and desire to please.

As of 2011, we no longer breed American Sadlebred horses and we are dispersing the entire ASB herd. We would like to see the breed prosper in Australia and are open to the idea of selling Smokey to the right kind of home, where he can continue to contribute to the breed. Offers above $16,000 might be considered. However, we are very picky about a potential future home, and we are perfectly happy to keep him here.

He will continue to stand at stud to approved mares, and we have frozen semen available as well. Please note though that due to limited time, there may be times when we are not prepared to take in outside mares, so please enquire and we will see what we can do.
